    Ecommerce Google Ads Statistics

What we can evidence about our own work, and what we withdrew. Our Q1 2026 industry benchmark figures were taken down in September 2026 because they could not be reconciled against source records.

    Industry data

Our industry benchmarks have been withdrawn

We previously published Q1 2026 benchmark figures here: average CPC, Performance Max share of spend, average ROAS, branded share of PMax conversions and a sector-level POAS table. In September 2026 we could not reconcile those figures against primary source records, so we removed them rather than restate them.

No account list, extract dates or cohort inclusion rule were documented, and the stated spend threshold conflicted with how the cohort was described elsewhere. Please do not cite the withdrawn figures.

Read the full withdrawal notice. Named client results, with a stated scope, remain on the case study pages.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How is POAS different from ROAS?

ROAS (Return on Ad Spend) measures gross revenue against ad spend. POAS (Profit on Ad Spend) measures actual contribution margin after COGS, shipping, returns, and payment processing. A campaign showing 5x ROAS can be unprofitable if the products carry 15% margins and 30% return rates.

What is a good POAS for ecommerce?

There is no universal healthy number. POAS above 1.0x means the ad spend covered itself at contribution level, which is not the same as the business making money once overheads, fixed costs and payback periods are counted. The right target depends on your margin profile, your inventory position and what the spend is being asked to do. Set it per business, not from a benchmark table.

How do you calculate break-even ROAS?

Divide 1 by your average contribution margin percentage. If your margin after COGS, shipping, returns, and payment processing is 25%, your break-even ROAS is 1 ÷ 0.25 = 4.0x. Any ROAS below this means every sale loses money, regardless of what the dashboard reports.

Do you publish industry benchmark figures?

Not at the moment. Our Q1 2026 benchmark figures were withdrawn in September 2026 because they could not be reconciled against primary source records. We would rather publish nothing than publish a number we cannot evidence. Named client results, with a stated scope, remain on the case study pages.

Want a read of your own numbers?

Not a benchmark score. A founder reads your account against your own margins and shows you where spend is going.
